Two flamingos share a quiet moment in this colourful, expressive piece. Their mirrored pose hints at the natural rhythm of their relationship, a gentle pause in the constant dance of feeding and companionship. Flamingos live in close family and friendship groups, known as flamboyances, and many form long-term monogamous pairs. I wanted to honour that bond here. These two feel connected, aware of one another, and part of a wider community full of trust and cooperation.

I painted them in glowing corals, hot pinks and flaming oranges, set against a dreamy sweep of turquoise and deep teal. Soft notes of earthy warmth come through the layers, grounding the scene. The vibrant palette reflects the vitality of flamingo life.

The brushwork is bold and full of energy, with textured passages that pull you in close. There is a sense of rhythm in the way the marks move across the canvas, as if they have paused only for a heartbeat before dipping their beaks again into the shallows rich with shrimp.
